A cash rating given to a safe is a manufacturers guide to the cash value an insurance company would insure you for. The cash value is multiplied by 10 for items such as jewellery or other items. For instance a safe with a cash rating of £2000 could hold cash up to £2000 or jewellery up to £20,000.

Fire and Data safes are also available and will carry a cash rating as well as a fire rating. The fire rating shows that a safe has been tested to a certain temperature for a certain period of time and kept enclosed items in good condition.
